About This Dharamshala Itinerary

Dharamshala and McLeodganj — Little Lhasa of India — offer a unique blend of Tibetan Buddhist culture, Himalayan adventure, and colonial charm. Our 2-day itinerary covers the spiritual center of the Dalai Lama, the vibrant McLeodganj market, a trek to Triund summit, and the beautiful Norbulingka Institute.

Day 1 explores McLeodganj's Tibetan soul — the Dalai Lama Temple complex, Tibet Museum, Bhagsu Waterfall, and sunset at Naddi viewpoint. Day 2 features the iconic Triund trek for stunning Dhauladhar views, the scenic HPCA cricket stadium, and the Norbulingka arts center.

A cab handles the altitude difference between lower Dharamshala (1,457 m) and McLeodganj (1,770 m), plus transfers to scattered viewpoints and the Norbulingka Institute. Our drivers are experienced with the steep, narrow hill roads of this region.

Yes, 2 days covers McLeodganj, Triund trek (short version), Dharamshala town, and Norbulingka. Add a 3rd day for Dharamkot, Kareri Lake trek, or a day trip to Palampur.

The Triund trek is moderate — 9 km one way with a 1,100 m altitude gain. It takes 3-4 hours up and 2-3 hours down. No technical skills needed, just reasonable fitness.

The Dalai Lama occasionally gives public audiences and teachings (usually in spring). Check his official website for schedule. Even without a personal meeting, visiting his temple is deeply moving.

Tibetan momos (steamed dumplings), thukpa (noodle soup), butter tea, and Tibetan bread. McLeodganj also has excellent Israeli, Italian, and fusion cafes due to its international backpacker culture.

Dharamshala is 480 km from Delhi, about 9-10 hours by car. The nearest airport is Gaggal (15 km). We offer Delhi-Dharamshala cab packages.

Dharamshala is the main town (lower, 1,457 m) with the cricket stadium and markets. McLeodganj (upper, 1,770 m) is 8 km up the hill — the Tibetan settlement with temples, cafes, and backpacker culture.
