Working in English
Mughal and Rajput history reaches English through a settled vocabulary — jali, chhatri, pietra dura, charbagh — and the job is to use those words and then explain them, rather than flattening everything to "carving" and "garden".
The working language of most of India’s tourism trade, which means an English-speaking guide is also the easiest to verify: you can ask your own questions and judge the answers.
Place names are read as English speakers expect to hear them, with the Hindi or Urdu original offered once so you can use it with shopkeepers and drivers.

How this tour actually runs
The difference between a small-group and a large-group tour of the same monuments is not the price. It is where the vehicle can stop, how far you walk from there, and how the day has to be paced. Both are set out below.
Travelling by Maharaja Tempo Traveller
- Group size
- Up to 17, the common group-tour size
- How the day paces
- Seventeen people set the pace of the day rather than the itinerary doing it. Security, tickets, washrooms and gathering after each monument all take longer, and a realistic seventeen-seat day covers one stop fewer than the same hours in a car. Planning it the other way is the commonest mistake in group touring.
- What the guide is working with
- At seventeen a guide needs the group standing still to be heard, which shapes where the commentary happens — outside and before entry, rather than in front of the thing being described.
- Where this vehicle stops
- Parks with the large vehicles. At monuments with a vehicle-free zone this means a walk of several hundred metres to over a kilometre from the parking to the gate, which has to be in the plan if anyone in the group cannot manage it.
- This itinerary, at this group size
- This itinerary covers 4 sites — Delhi (Red Fort, Qutub, India Gate), Agra (Taj, Fort), Fatehpur Sikri and Jaipur (Amber, City Palace, Hawa Mahal) across a 5 days / 4 nights. With up to 17 travelling, budget the gathering time at each of them as well as the walk in: that is the difference between an itinerary that reads well and one that finishes on time.
Access at Delhi → Agra → Jaipur monuments
- Where vehicles are allowed
- A Golden Triangle tour inherits the access reality of all three cities, and they are not the same. The practical consequence is that one vehicle serves three different parking situations over the trip, and the group walks furthest at Agra and climbs most at Amer.
- The walk from parking
- Varies by city and by vehicle class. The longest single walk on the whole circuit is from coach parking to the Taj gate; the hardest is the Amer ascent.
- Crowds, light and closures
- The circuit has to be built around two fixed constraints: the Taj is closed on Fridays, and Delhi monuments have weekly closures that differ between them. Getting those wrong costs a whole day of a multi-day itinerary. Driving days between the cities are three to four hours Delhi–Agra on the expressway and four to five Agra–Jaipur.
Each city's sites are governed separately — the Archaeological Survey of India, the state tourism departments and the individual trusts. Confirm all three for your dates.
