Dehradun Airport to Auli is 275 km and eight to nine hours, up the Alaknanda on the Badrinath road through Devprayag, Rudraprayag and Joshimath. It is a serious mountain drive and the kilometres tell you very little about it.
For any arrival after mid-morning, we would plan an overnight at Srinagar or Rudraprayag rather than pushing through, because the upper Alaknanda gorge is not a road to be driving tired or after dark. Joshimath, 15 km below Auli, is the usual final base.
