NH-44 is excellent 4-lane highway till Chandigarh. After Bilaspur, mountain roads begin with hairpin bends. Road quality is good but narrow in some stretches near Mandi.
March to June, September to November. Avoid July-August (landslides) and Dec-Feb (snow may block roads).
Stop at Murthal (40 km from Delhi) for famous paranthas. Carry warm clothes even in summer as Manali evenings are cool.
