The Golden Triangle circuit — Delhi, Agra and Jaipur

Guide, vehicle and driver

A private tour with a guide and driver

One car, one driver and one licensed guide, on a single price agreed before you travel — ₹4,000 for a full day in a sedan with an English-speaking guide, ₹2,400 for a half day. The driver stays with the car and the guide comes inside the monuments with you, which is the one thing a taxi cannot do and a walking guide cannot either.

Why the two together

What a guide and a driver each do, and why splitting them costs you the day

The two jobs are not interchangeable and most first-time visitors discover that halfway through the first morning. A driver cannot park at a monument gate and walk in with you — the car has to go to a car park several hundred metres away, and at Amber Fort or the Taj that is a different road entirely. A licensed guide, meanwhile, has no vehicle: they meet you at the gate and leave you there.

Booked separately, the gap between them is yours to manage: working out which gate the guide is at, where the driver can wait, and how you get between the two in forty degrees. Booked together, that is somebody else’s problem — the guide tells the driver which gate to collect from, and they have each other’s numbers.

It is also the one proposition in this category that is genuinely ours. The marketplaces sell a guide or a seat on a coach; the two specialists holding page one for guide hire in India sell a guide and leave the transport to you. A transport company that also holds licensed guides can sell the pair on one price, and that is this page.

A car waiting on Kartavya Path, New Delhi

The driver

Stays with the car all day

Hotel pickup at the time you choose, waiting at every stop for the whole package, and no re-booking between sights. Fuel, tolls, parking and the driver’s allowance are in the price.

Agra Fort, an ASI monument where licensed guides are admitted

The guide

Comes inside with you

A Ministry-of-Tourism Regional Level Guide, examined in the language you booked, admitted into the ASI monuments that turn unlicensed guides away at the ticket gate.

The price

One figure, agreed first

The guide fee plus the published rental package, added together and sent to you in writing. Per group rather than per person, so a family of four pays once.

On a multi-city run, the car stays and the guide changes

Guide licences are issued per tourism region, so a Golden Triangle tour cannot legally use one guide throughout: Delhi and Agra are the Northern Region, Jaipur is Rajasthan. What we keep constant is the car and the driver, for the whole trip, and we change guide at the state line.

That is not a compromise — it is the better tour. Each guide is working on their own monuments, in the city they were examined on, rather than reciting a second-hand script about somewhere else.
