Tips for Your September Long Weekends Trip

Book 2-3 weeks ahead — both September long weekends run tight on vehicle availability

Mathura and Vrindavan get extremely crowded on Janmashtami; leave Delhi by 4 AM

Early September still carries residual landslide risk on Uttarakhand hill roads

Post-monsoon means clearer views but sudden showers still happen — carry a rain shell

About September Long Weekends at Vrindavan, Haridwar & Uttarakhand Hills

September 2026 hands Delhi NCR two three-day weekends. Krishna Janmashtami falls on Friday 4 September, making Sep 4-6 a natural run to Mathura and Vrindavan. Ganesh Chaturthi is Monday 14 September, giving a Sep 12-14 weekend that is long enough for a proper hill or pilgrimage leg. Both land in the post-monsoon window, when the rain eases and the views open up.

For the Janmashtami weekend the obvious call is Braj. Mathura and Vrindavan are 180 km down the Yamuna Expressway and the celebrations at Banke Bihari and Krishna Janmabhoomi are the reason people make the drive — see our /janmashtami-mathura-vrindavan-cab page for that trip specifically. For Ganesh Chaturthi weekend, three days opens up Haridwar (220 km), Rishikesh (230 km), Nainital (300 km), Mussoorie (280 km) and Shimla (350 km), or a Char Dham leg if you are timing the second yatra window.

September is genuinely better driving weather than August, but it is not risk-free. Residual landslides on Uttarakhand hill roads are real through early September and sudden showers still happen. Fares follow our standard rates: sedan (Dzire/Etios) ₹11/km, Ertiga ₹15/km, Innova Crysta ₹18/km, 12-seater Tempo Traveller ₹20/km with no one-way discount on large vehicles. Outstation bills a 250-300 km per day minimum and hill routes add a ₹300-500 per night driver halt allowance. A 3-day trip starts around ₹9,100 in a sedan.
