"Every journey to unveils stories waiting to be discovered, moments waiting to be lived."

The best time to visit Ladakh is May to September, when the Srinagar-Leh and Manali-Leh highways are open, and high passes like Khardung La and Chang La are accessible. July and August are the warmest and most reliable for Pangong Lake and Nubra Valley, while September brings clear skies and thinning crowds. Winter (November-March) is only for hardy travellers as most roads close. See our Leh Ladakh trip cost from Delhi guide to plan the budget.

Month-by-Month Detail

May - Season Opens

Snow lingers on the passes and nights are cold, but the Srinagar-Leh highway usually reopens. A good time for photographers who want snow-lined roads with fewer tourists.

June - Reliable & Green

Both highways are typically open. Days are pleasant and this is when most road trips from Delhi and Manali begin.

July-August - Peak Season

Warmest weather and full access to Pangong, Nubra and Tso Moriri. Note that the plains monsoon can affect the Manali approach, so keep buffer days. This window is popular enough that we run a dedicated Leh Ladakh August-September trip.

September - The Sweet Spot

Crisp air, golden landscapes and thinner crowds. Roads are still open early in the month, making it ideal for a relaxed itinerary.

Acclimatisation Tips

  • Spend the first 24-48 hours in Leh resting to adjust to the altitude (~3,500 m).
  • Hydrate well and avoid alcohol on arrival day.
  • Carry inner-line permits for Nubra, Pangong and Tso Moriri.
  • Fuel up in Leh - petrol stations are sparse beyond the town.
