The Journey

How long is the drive to Kasol?

Chandigarh Airport to Kasol is 275 km and seven to eight hours, up NH205 and NH3 through Bilaspur and Mandi to Bhuntar, then east into the Parvati valley. The valley road is the slow part — the last 35 km from Bhuntar takes well over an hour.

Your driver tracks the flight and meets you at arrivals. An early arrival at Chandigarh is much better than a late one here, because the Parvati valley road is narrow with a river on one side and is not somewhere to be driving after dark if it can be avoided.

Kasol itself is small and the village is walked. Chalal is a twenty-minute riverside path from it, Manikaran is 4 km further up the valley, and the Kheerganga trail starts at Barshaini, 15 km on — the car reaches the trailhead and the climb from there is four hours on foot.

What do travellers ask about this airport transfer?

Seven to eight hours for 275 km. The highway to Bhuntar via Bilaspur and Mandi is five and a half to six hours; the final 35 km up the Parvati valley road takes well over an hour because it is narrow and winding. An early flight arrival makes this a much better day.
