The Journey

How long is the drive to Ajmer?

Delhi Airport to Ajmer is 400 km and seven to eight hours, on NH48 through Jaipur and then NH58 south-west. The road is six-lane highway almost the whole way, which makes it a faster drive than the distance suggests.

Pushkar is 15 km beyond Ajmer over the Nag Pahar hill, and a great many people travelling this route are going to one and then the other. If that is the plan, say so when booking — it is the same transfer rather than two.

The Dargah is the usual destination and its approach needs local knowledge. The old-city lanes near the shrine are narrow and closed to vehicles at the entrance, so the drop is at the Dargah Bazaar edge and the rest is on foot. During the Urs the whole area carries pedestrian traffic in numbers that make vehicle movement impossible, and the plan changes accordingly.
