Tips for Your Monsoon Season Trip
Descend hill roads in the morning - afternoon cloudbursts cause most Himachal and Uttarakhand blockages
Rohtang Pass needs a permit and a quota slot; Atal Tunnel does not, so plan the Lahaul side via the tunnel
Waterproof footwear with grip matters more than a fancy jacket - hill steps get slick
Leeches are common on wet Mussoorie and Nainital forest trails; carry salt or repellent
About Monsoon Season at Shimla, Manali, Mussoorie & Nainital
Hill stations in the rain are a different proposition to hill stations in June. Kempty Falls actually thunders, the Kullu valley turns properly green, and you can walk Shimla's Ridge without shouldering through a crowd. Hotel rates drop through most of August too. Triveni Cabs runs Delhi-based monsoon packages to Shimla, Manali, Mussoorie and Nainital with drivers who have been doing these roads in every kind of weather.
The honest version: it will rain, some days you will lose an afternoon, and Himachal and Uttarakhand hill roads do get landslides and shooting stones after a heavy spell. The Manali-Rohtang side needs a permit and a quota slot, and the Lahaul crossing depends on weather even with the Atal Tunnel open. We build every monsoon itinerary with an indoor fallback and instruct drivers to complete hill descents before the afternoon rain builds. If a route is genuinely unsafe, we change it - that decision is not up for negotiation on the day.
A 3-day package starts at ₹8,250 for a sedan at ₹11/km with the standard 250 km per day minimum billing. Innova Crysta is ₹18/km, which is what we suggest if your plan includes Solang, Atal Tunnel or any unpaved stretch. Ertiga sits in between at ₹15/km. For groups, a 12-seater Tempo Traveller is ₹20/km and a 17-seater ₹24/km - and to be clear, tempo bookings are charged the same for one-way as for round-trip, since the vehicle still has to return. Call 7668570551 and we will tell you which of the four towns suits your dates best.
