Tips for Your Monsoon Season Trip
Be clear on what we do: Triveni Cabs provides the road transport to and from Govindghat. The trek itself is on foot and we do not provide trekking guides or permits - the forest department permit is bought at the Ghangaria gate
The Valley of Flowers National Park is usually open around 1 June to 4 October; there are no night stays inside the park, so it is a day trek from Ghangaria
Peak bloom falls in the monsoon, which means the same rain that grows the flowers can block the road - keep at least one buffer day
Hill road gates on the Rishikesh-Joshimath stretch close after dark; night driving is not permitted, so plan halts accordingly
About Monsoon Season at Govindghat & Valley of Flowers, Uttarakhand
The Valley of Flowers is one of the few places in India where the monsoon is the reason to go rather than the reason to stay home. The bloom runs roughly from mid-July to mid-September and the park is usually open from around 1 June to 4 October, so August and early September are the honest peak. Triveni Cabs runs the road half of this trip from Delhi - roughly 500 km to Govindghat via Haridwar, Rishikesh, Devprayag and Joshimath - and waits while you are on the mountain.
We want to be precise about the split. We drive you to Govindghat and pick you up from Govindghat. Everything past that is on foot: the 9-10 km trail from Pulna up to Ghangaria, then a day trek into the valley itself. We are not a trekking company and we do not sell guiding, permits or porters - the forest department permit is bought at the Ghangaria gate, and ponies and porters are hired locally at Govindghat or Pulna. Our driver and vehicle stay parked and available for your return, which is exactly what most people want after four days on the trail.
The monsoon caveat is real. The same rain that produces the bloom loosens the hillsides above the Alaknanda, and the Rishikesh-Joshimath road does get blocked. Gates on that stretch shut after dark, so we do not do night hill driving. Build in a buffer day. A 5-day trip is billed at 250 km per day minimum: ₹11,000 for a sedan at ₹11/km, ₹18,000 for an Innova Crysta at ₹18/km which is the sensible pick for this road, and ₹20,000 for a 12-seater Tempo Traveller at ₹20/km. Tempo one-way is billed the same as round-trip. Call 7668570551 to lock your dates.
