Planning a weekend out of McLeodganj

McLeodganj sits above Dharamshala at about 2,080 metres with the Dhauladhar directly behind it, and it is the best-placed hill base in Himachal for a weekend — the Kangra valley runs east and west from below it with good road in both directions.

East is Bir and the paragliding, and eventually Mandi and Kullu. West and north is Chamba district and Dalhousie. South is Punjab, with Amritsar five and a half hours down.
