Hiring a group vehicle in Dharamshala

Where the group gets on

Dharamshala itself is straightforward. McLeod Ganj above it is not: the road up is narrow and climbing, and the village at the top has little room for a large vehicle to turn or wait. Bhagsu and Dharamkot above that are narrower again. A group staying in the upper village frequently makes the last stretch in something smaller, and that is better arranged in advance than discovered on the bends.

What the roads out allow

240 km from Chandigarh and 475 km from Delhi, good highway for most of it and well-made mountain road after Una, so the difficult driving here is local rather than on the approach. The run across to Manali is a different matter — 235 km of continuous mountain road, narrow and slow through the Baijnath and Mandi stretch, which makes it a full day rather than the half-day the distance implies.

What groups here travel for

Unusually mixed. Monastery and Tibetan-community visitors, trekking and yoga groups heading for McLeod Ganj and the villages above it, school and college parties, and cricket crowds when there is a match at the stadium.

Worth knowing before you book

The distinction that matters is between Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj, which are spoken of as one place and are not. A few kilometres and a steep climb separate them, and very nearly every vehicle-size question in this area turns on which of the two the group is staying in.

What a Tempo Traveller is, and who books one

The Tempo Traveller is the backbone of Indian group travel. Force Motors' proven Traveller platform seats 12 to 26 passengers in air-conditioned comfort, with push-back seats, a music system, charging points and an experienced driver included. Whether it is a Delhi–Manali family holiday, a Haridwar pilgrimage, a Rajasthan wedding baraat or a corporate offsite, the right seater tempo keeps the whole group together for a fraction of what multiple cars would cost. Outstation trips start at ₹23/km with transparent, itemised pricing — no surge, no hidden charges.

For groups of 8 or more, a 12 or 17-seater Tempo Traveller is almost always cheaper than two cars — and dramatically more comfortable on hill routes like Delhi to Manali where the road bends every 30 seconds.

More about hiring a tempo traveller in Dharamshala

How long does a drive out of Dharamshala take?
6 hr for 250 km. Add half an hour for one proper stop. A 6 AM start out of Dharamshala is worth more than any shortcut, because the hour you save is at the congested end.
What time should we leave Dharamshala?
Between 5 and 6 AM, which clears Dharamshala before the build-up. On 250 km and 6 hr the hour gained at the start is the hour you are not driving tired at the far end. Our drivers would rather start early than make it up later.
Which charges are billed separately on Dharamshala?
Four things, all billed at actual rather than estimated: tolls, parking, any state permit the route needs, and the driver night allowance at ₹300 per night if the trip keeps the driver away overnight. Monument and park entry fees are separate too where a trip includes them. Everything else — fuel, the driver, AC, and the vehicle — is inside the quoted rate, and the quote is confirmed before the booking rather than at the end of the journey.
What happens if I cancel the Dharamshala booking?
The published policy, which is the one that applies. Cancel your Dharamshala booking 7 or more days before the journey and the advance is refunded in full. Cancel 3 to 6 days before and half is returned. Inside 72 hours there is no refund, and the same applies to a no-show. Eligible refunds are processed within 5-7 working days to the original payment method, and the full terms are at /cancellation-and-refund-policy. If we cancel — a breakdown, a driver emergency, a road closed by weather — you get everything back, or an alternative vehicle or date, whichever you prefer.
How much is the toll a Dharamshala hire?
Charged at actual, with the receipts available, so you pay what the road charged rather than a number we estimated. That is deliberate: toll rates change, expressway stretches are priced by distance rather than per barrier, and a quoted toll is out of date before it is useful. Where we have researched a corridor's plazas in detail, the toll-cost page for that route lists them with car and SUV figures.
Can I book Dharamshala for tomorrow morning?
Call or WhatsApp +91 7668570551, or use the form on this page. You get the fare, the vehicle and the driver's details confirmed before the journey rather than on the day. Same-day bookings are taken subject to a car being free; for an early-morning pickup the night before is safer, because that is when the available cars get allocated.
Who will be driving us a Dharamshala hire?
A verified commercial driver who knows this route, in an insured, GPS-tracked vehicle from our own fleet. Long-distance trips are monitored by the operations desk while they run. If something goes wrong mid-journey there is a person to call, not a form to fill in.
Is a receipt given for the Dharamshala trip?
Yes. Mention it when you book and give us the GSTIN, and a tax invoice is issued against the booking. Account customers can have invoices consolidated monthly rather than one per trip. A printed receipt is given at the end of the journey in every case, GST or not.
What size tempo traveller do we need?
Count the luggage, not just the people. A group that fits a vehicle's seat count exactly does not fit it once everyone has a bag — which is why the published capacities give a range rather than a single number, and why the next size up is usually the right call for a long journey. The fare chart on this page lists every size we run with its per-km rate, and the rate is what the chart says rather than a figure quoted separately.
Is a one-way charter cheaper?
No, and this is the one place the usual logic reverses. A chartered tempo traveller returns to base whether or not you are in it, so a one-way charter is billed as a return journey. There is no one-way discount to offer on it. For a genuine one-way where the group is small enough, a cab or an SUV is the cheaper product and we will say so.
