The Mall Road area is congested and the hotel lanes off it are narrow, so a large vehicle collects from the main road rather than the door. Old Manali and Vashisht are tighter again. For a group with luggage the distance from the vehicle to the room is a real part of the arrival.

What the roads out allow

This is the hardest driving on this list and the seating decision matters most here. The roads beyond the town toward Rohtang and Spiti are narrow, high and unforgiving of length, and a 26-seater is the wrong vehicle for a good deal of it. Two smaller vehicles are frequently the better answer.

6 hr for 250 km. Add half an hour for one proper stop. A 6 AM start out of Manali is worth more than any shortcut, because the hour you save is at the congested end.
How early should we set off from Manali?
Between 5 and 6 AM, which clears Manali before the build-up. On 250 km and 6 hr the hour gained at the start is the hour you are not driving tired at the far end. Our drivers would rather start early than make it up later.

Is a one-way charter cheaper?
No, and this is the one place the usual logic reverses. A chartered tempo traveller returns to base whether or not you are in it, so a one-way charter is billed as a return journey. There is no one-way discount to offer on it. For a genuine one-way where the group is small enough, a cab or an SUV is the cheaper product and we will say so.
Which charges are billed separately on Manali?
Four things, all billed at actual rather than estimated: tolls, parking, any state permit the route needs, and the driver night allowance at ₹300 per night if the trip keeps the driver away overnight. Monument and park entry fees are separate too where a trip includes them. Everything else — fuel, the driver, AC, and the vehicle — is inside the quoted rate, and the quote is confirmed before the booking rather than at the end of the journey.
Can I get a refund if I cancel Manali?
The published policy, which is the one that applies. Cancel your Manali booking 7 or more days before the journey and the advance is refunded in full. Cancel 3 to 6 days before and half is returned. Inside 72 hours there is no refund, and the same applies to a no-show. Eligible refunds are processed within 5-7 working days to the original payment method, and the full terms are at /cancellation-and-refund-policy. If we cancel — a breakdown, a driver emergency, a road closed by weather — you get everything back, or an alternative vehicle or date, whichever you prefer.
How much is the toll a Manali hire?
Charged at actual, with the receipts available, so you pay what the road charged rather than a number we estimated. That is deliberate: toll rates change, expressway stretches are priced by distance rather than per barrier, and a quoted toll is out of date before it is useful.
