4-Day Golden Triangle with a licensed guide
Four days is the shortest version of the Golden Triangle that does not feel like a forced march. It buys one full day in each city and a half day for Fatehpur Sikri on the Agra–Jaipur leg, which is the stop that gets dropped from every three-day itinerary and is the best-preserved Mughal city in India.

Day by day
4 days, 3 nights, laid out
Start times are written against the monuments’ own opening hours rather than rounded, which is why some of them look early. The plan is flexible on the day — this is the version that works if you leave it alone.
Leg 1 of 4
Day 1 — Delhi
- Morning
Airport or hotel pickup, then south Delhi
Qutub Minar and the Mehrauli complex, then Humayun’s Tomb — the Sultanate layer and the Mughal prototype, in that order.
- Afternoon
Old Delhi
The Red Fort, the Jama Masjid courtyard and Chandni Chowk by cycle-rickshaw.
- Evening
India Gate and the imperial axis
Lit, and busy with locals. Overnight in Delhi.
Leg 2 of 4
Day 2 — Delhi to Agra, 230 km
- 07:00
Depart on the Yamuna Expressway
About three and a half hours. The best road in north India and the reason this leg is comfortable.
- Midday
Agra Fort
Check in, then the fort: Akbar’s sandstone, Shah Jahan’s marble, and the Musamman Burj.
- Afternoon
Taj Mahal
Afternoon light on the west face. A new Agra guide takes over here, licensed on these monuments.
- Evening
Mehtab Bagh in winter
October to March the sun sets late enough for the garden across the river. Overnight in Agra.
Leg 3 of 4
Day 3 — Agra to Jaipur via Fatehpur Sikri, 240 km
- 05:45
Sunrise at the Taj Mahal
Optional, and the single best hour of the trip. Back for breakfast afterwards.
- 09:00
Fatehpur Sikri
Forty kilometres out on the Jaipur road. The Buland Darwaza, the Panch Mahal and the debating hall — two hours, on one ticket.
- Afternoon
Drive on to Jaipur
About four hours. The guide changes at the Rajasthan border; the car and driver do not.
- Evening
Jaipur
Bazaars, or a Rajasthani village dinner at Chokhi Dhani. Overnight in Jaipur.
Leg 4 of 4
Day 4 — Jaipur, then back to Delhi
- 08:00
Amber Fort at opening
Two and a half hours before the crowd. Sheesh Mahal, Ganesh Pol, and the garden in the lake below.
- Midday
City Palace and Jantar Mantar
The planned city of 1727, and an observatory whose instruments still work.
- Afternoon
Hawa Mahal and Johari Bazaar
The facade from the rooftop opposite, then the gem and textile bazaars.
- Evening
Depart for Delhi, 270 km
About five hours, or stay the night and leave in the morning — tell us which when you book.
Closed days, and how we plan round them
The Taj Mahal closes on Friday and the Red Fort on Monday. We build the day order around your arrival date so neither falls on a closed day, which is the main reason to tell us your dates before anything else.
Guide licences are issued per tourism region, so this itinerary changes guide at the Rajasthan border — a Northern Region guide for Delhi and Agra, a Rajasthan-licensed guide in Jaipur. The car and the driver stay with you for the whole trip. That is both the licensed way to run it and the better tour: each guide is working on their own monuments rather than reciting a script about somewhere else.

Who comes with you, and how to check them
A Regional Level Guide licence is issued by the Ministry of Tourism after a written examination, an interview and a training course run through the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management. It is issued for a tourism region, not for the whole country, and it names the foreign languages the holder is examined in.
