6-Day Golden Triangle with a licensed guide
Six days is the Golden Triangle without the compromises. The Taj at sunrise stops being an optional early start and becomes a planned morning. Delhi gets two days, which is what it takes to do the Mughal, Sultanate and imperial cities properly rather than one of each. Jaipur gets a second day for Jaigarh, Nahargarh and the bazaars. And nothing is dropped because the drive ran long.

6 days, 5 nights, laid out
Start times are written against the monuments’ own opening hours rather than rounded, which is why some of them look early. The plan is flexible on the day — this is the version that works if you leave it alone.
Leg 1 of 6
Day 1 — Delhi, the south
- Morning
Pickup, then Qutub Minar and Mehrauli
The Sultanate layer: the minaret in four campaigns, the Iron Pillar, the Alai Darwaza and the Mehrauli tombs most tours never reach.
- Afternoon
Humayun's Tomb and Nizamuddin
The Taj prototype, Isa Khan’s tomb on the same ticket, and the dargah lanes behind it.
- Evening
Lodhi Garden or India Gate
Overnight in Delhi.
Leg 2 of 6
Day 2 — Delhi, the old city
- Morning
Red Fort at opening
Two hours while it is quiet, with what was demolished after 1857 explained alongside what stands.
- Midday
Jama Masjid and Chandni Chowk on foot
Dariba Kalan, Kinari Bazaar, Khari Baoli, and lunch in Paranthe Wali Gali.
- Afternoon
Akshardham
Four hours with the exhibitions, which is why no shorter itinerary includes it. Phones and cameras stay in the car. Overnight in Delhi.
Leg 3 of 6
Day 3 — Delhi to Agra, 230 km
- 08:00
Yamuna Expressway to Agra
Three and a half hours.
- Afternoon
Agra Fort
Two hours with the new Agra guide.
- Late afternoon
Mehtab Bagh
The back view across the Yamuna at golden hour. Overnight in Agra.
Leg 4 of 6
Day 4 — Agra
- 05:45
Sunrise at the Taj Mahal
Planned, not optional. Two hours with the first batch, then back for breakfast.
- Midday
Itimad-ud-Daulah's Tomb
The Baby Taj — where the inlay was developed, and almost empty.
- Afternoon
Marble inlay workshop and Agra’s lanes
The same pietra dura technique, still worked by families. Optional, and the guide will tell you which workshops actually cut stone. Overnight in Agra.
Leg 5 of 6
Day 5 — Agra to Jaipur via Fatehpur Sikri, 240 km
- 08:00
Fatehpur Sikri
Two and a half hours at Akbar’s abandoned capital — the Buland Darwaza, the Panch Mahal, the debating hall and the Salim Chishti dargah.
- Afternoon
On to Jaipur
Four hours. The guide changes at the Rajasthan border.
- Evening
Jaipur
Chokhi Dhani, or the bazaars. Overnight in Jaipur.
Leg 6 of 6
Day 6 — Jaipur
- 08:00
Amber Fort and Jaigarh
Amber at opening, then the fort above it with the Jaivana cannon — two kilometres apart and one story.
- Midday
City Palace and Jantar Mantar
Including Chandra Mahal if you want the furnished interiors.
- Afternoon
Hawa Mahal and the bazaars
Johari for gemstones, Bapu for textiles, with a guide who has no commission in either.
- Evening
Nahargarh at sunset, then depart
The best view in Jaipur, then Delhi or the Jaipur airport.
Closed days, and how we plan round them
Six days absorbs the closures without losing anything: the Taj is shut on Friday, the Red Fort and Akshardham on Monday, and with two days in Delhi and two in Agra there is always another slot.
Guide licences are issued per tourism region, so this itinerary changes guide at the Rajasthan border — a Northern Region guide for Delhi and Agra, a Rajasthan-licensed guide in Jaipur. The car and the driver stay with you for the whole trip. That is both the licensed way to run it and the better tour: each guide is working on their own monuments rather than reciting a script about somewhere else.

The guide
Who comes with you, and how to check them
A Regional Level Guide licence is issued by the Ministry of Tourism after a written examination, an interview and a training course run through the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management. It is issued for a tourism region, not for the whole country, and it names the foreign languages the holder is examined in.
